For this Chinese New Year just gone we bought just the 1 packet of crabstick from Costco. It finished in just a few days after giving a jar to friend’s son. There is not enough to eat. I told hubby he should have grabbed 2 bags. Last week while in Costco he grabbed 3 bags!
Oh Lordy, it took me hours to peel, dry and fry yesterday. I started peeling while watching Homes Under the Hammer, around 11:00am and didn’t finish till gone 21:00pm but I fried shallots oil as well. Might as well do it all in a day then kitchen gets a thorough clean and my hair gets washed. kekekeke
Well then, I have this idea, I tried it and it worked! Buying salted egg yolks fish skin is so expensive. Crabsticks in itself taste a bit of fish anyway so if I add salted egg yolks powder to it……….. My husband was hanging to the entire tub saying that it is his Valentine present (today is Valentine Day) – snacks when he’s working in the study! I wanted to add another ingredient in but I ran out of the ingredient! It’s another idea but watch this space! Next round I will update!
Please refer to pics below. I do have a very important TIP. You must use a deep pan to fry and not too much oil. Remember all things with yolks bubble up so be WARNED. Just use enough oil to fry 2 rounds, then add oil again. When I make another round I will add pics of the frying. I forgot to take any yesterday.
TIP – Season as per usual. As this brand of crabsticks is quite flavourful I normally only sprinkle with cornflour or rice flour and a pinch of baking powder. Now I just added in the salted egg yolks powder.
